The role of moral climate as a mediator in the relationships of spirituality in the workplace with accountability and social responsibility

Abstract

Objective: The aim of the current research is to model the relationships of spirituality in the work environment with accountability and responsibility with an emphasis on moral atmosphere. In this research, in addition to examining the general model of variables' relationships, the variables' relationships with each other have been investigated.
Methodology: The present research was conducted by descriptive-correlation method on 217 students of Urmia University. Sampling was done by simple random method. The data collection tool was standard questionnaires whose content validity was confirmed by experts' opinion and its construct validity was confirmed by factor analysis. The reliability scores for the scales were statistically appropriate: the reliability of spirituality at work questionnaire (0.68), moral atmosphere (0.90), individual accountability (0.91) and social responsibility (0.96) were calculated. SPSS 21 and LISREAL statistical analysis software were used to analyze the research data and information. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics methods have been used in this research.
Results: Data analysis showed that spirituality in the work environment has a direct, positive and significant effect with a coefficient of 0.24 on social responsibility. Also, spirituality in the work environment has a direct, positive and significant effect with a coefficient of 0.19 on individual responsiveness. In addition, spirituality in the work environment has a direct, positive and significant effect with a coefficient of 0.47 on moral atmosphere. And finally, spirituality in the work environment has an indirect, positive and significant effect on individual accountability and social responsibility with a coefficient of 0.15 and 0.17, respectively.
Conclusion: In general, it can be concluded that moral atmosphere plays a significant role in improving the effect of spirituality at work on responsibility and accountability.
