Objective: The increasing population of cities and its outpacing of urban planning has led to imbalances in the distribution of services, particularly educational services. The lack of coordination between the growing number of students and population planning on one hand, and the limited financial resources in the education sector on the other, has resulted in the non-application of location principles in most educational spaces. The consequence of this process has been a reduction in equitable access to educational services, which affects students' optimal access to educational spaces, ultimately leading to a lack of equity in access to educational services. The objective of this research is to assess the spatial equity of educational services at the neighborhood level in Urmia city. For this purpose, indicators such as educational space per capita, access to schools, and student population at the neighborhood level have been used.
Methodology: The research method is descriptive-analytical. Data collection at the neighborhood level was carried out through library and documentary methods. GIS and GeoDa software were used for data analysis.
Results: The results of the research indicate that the distribution pattern of schools, student population, and access to educational services in Urmia city is not equitable. The student population is concentrated in the peripheral neighborhoods, while the distribution and accessibility of schools are in the central neighborhoods. The results of spatial autocorrelation statistics also show that the pattern of access to educational services, educational space per capita, and student population is clustered.
Conclusion: The overall conclusion of the research shows that there is no significant correlation between the student population and the distribution and accessibility of schools.
